Professional Bio
Christine is an Honorary Principal Fellow and former Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne. She coordinated all aspects of binocular vision and paediatrics for the OD in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences.
With extensive experience as a clinician, director, educator, and researcher, she co-founded Anderson Nearchou and Associates and established paediatric optometric services at the University of Melbourne Eyecare Clinic.
Christine holds fellowships in multiple optometry colleges and holds a statutory appointment with AHPRA, serving on professional standards & performance panels.
Her research interests focus on visual cognition in children and its impact on learning outcomes. Christine has also led outreach eye care clinics in South-East Asia and is passionate about improving eye health and vision in children, in under-served communities and children with special needs and developmental challenges.
More recently, Christine has also developed a novel dot pattern method to assess visual cognition in children and has developed a digital tool to assess visual cognition (Vis-CAT®) for accessible screening in school and clinical settings.
