Day 1 - 9. Beyond the Bleb: Complications to Anticipate After Glaucoma Surgery
Presentation
Talk Description
Dr Geoffrey Chan presents on Beyond the Bleb: Complications to Anticipate After Glaucoma Surgery
Duration:
30 minutes

Synopsis: This session equips optometrists with the practical knowledge to recognise and manage common and uncommon complications following glaucoma surgery. Focusing on post-operative assessment, participants will learn to distinguish normal healing from concerning signs, identify complications early, and understand when urgent referral back to the ophthalmologist is warranted. Practical clinical tips and pearls will be shared to support safe and effective co-management of glaucoma patients post-surgery.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, delegates should be able to:
  1.  Recognize typical post-operative appearances and expected healing trajectories after trabeculectomy, tube shunt, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS).
  2. . Identify early and late complications, including hypotony, bleb leaks, infection, inflammation, and tube/corneal issues.
  3. Recognise “red flags” that require urgent referral back to the ophthalmologist.
  4. Implement patient education and advice to support recovery and long-term surgical success.

Assessment:  There are 5 Optional MCQS with this presentation.  Not available yet.
