Day 2 - Session 2 with Steve Leslie (5 MCQS)

Presentations Description
Steve Leslie presents on Concussion-Related Vision Symptoms & Dysfunctions
Duration:
30 minutes

Synopsis: Concussion is defined as a mild traumatic brain injury (m-TBI), and it is very common in many sports as well as occupational injuries, car accidents, assaults and injuries in the home. Up to 80% of people who experience an ABI will suffer one or more symptoms of visual dysfunction, most commonly convergence and accommodation dysfunctions.  About 80-90% of people who experience an mTBI will recover spontaneously within an accepted time frame of 2 weeks for adults and 4 weeks for children.  The remaining 10-20% will have post-concussion syndrome, and commonly suffer from severe headache, vision changes, light sensitivity and balance issues which can be long-lasting. The visual symptoms and signs of post-concussion syndrome will be reviewed, and options for optometric management described.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, delegates should be able to:
  1.  Recall the visual and ocular symptoms which commonly occur as a result of concussion
  2. Describe the vergence and accommodation dysfunctions which commonly occur in patients with Post - Concussion Syndrome
